Oil on canvas – Wittering – 2017
Painted in oil using a limited palette – sepias, browns and golds – to reflect the numerous times visiting and walking the length of the beach at West Wittering during winter. The horizon painted slightly curved is symbolic of walking from one side of the beach to the other. Small boats in the distance help describe the wide open space. Clouds billow forward and cast shadows on the wet sand. The foreground painted in thick oil describes the marks left by the movement of the sea.
